Suspect Flees Police by Jumping Into the East River

By

A motorist really wanted to avoid a traffic stop in Washington Heights last night. Upon seeing police approaching his car, Chauncey Kautz leapt out of his car, ran through Highbridge Park (where he coincidentally discarded a loaded gun, which might explain his quick exit), and then dove into the East River. A 1,000-foot swim later he'd made his way to the Bronx, but was soon apprehended by authorities. [NYP]
