George Carlin’s Old Parish Is Trying to Make Sure W. 121st Street Isn’t Named After the Comedian

The pastor of Morningside Heights’ Corpus Christi church, near where the famously foul-mouthed comedian grew up, isn’t too jazzed about a proposal to name the block after Carlin (who wasn’t exactly the most enthusiastic proponent of Catholicism). The priest went on television and found himself unable to repeat the exact nature of Carlin’s comments about the church, since they involved one of the seven dirty words (or, as the NYT delicately phrased it, “shall we say, the waste matter of a bull.”) Carlin is keeping that priest from the minor venial sin of cursing! Surely that’s worth some points.
