Taxis Could Scrap Confusing ‘Off Duty’ Light

A new plan by the Taxi and Limousine Commission might eliminate the squint-into-the-distance "off duty" lights atop cabs and replace them with a single, intuitive signal: on if the cab is free, off if it's not. But then how will New Yorkers judge others for their misguided hailing techniques? [NYT]
