Oscar Ramiro Ortega-Hernandez, the 21-year-old man arrested yesterday for firing at the White House on Friday, did not pick the day randomly, according to both investigators and his own father, who are describing a very disturbed man whose family reported him missing on October 31. Ortega-Hernandez was obsessed with the date November 11, 2011, and believed the world was to end that day. According to an official, “He hates the president, he hates Washington, he hates society.” He has become fixated on Obama, and reportedly believes the shooting was a mission from God. He fired two shots from a knockoff AK-47, one of which shattered a window and was stopped by protective glass. The family was out of town, but the hit window is in front of the Yellow Oval Room, in the Obamas’ living quarters. Ortega-Hernandez has an arrest record in three states, including violations in Idaho for theft, domestic abuse, and failing to put a tag on his dog’s collar.
