The idea that Mitt Romney ought to thank Gingrich for passing legislation to create an environment where Romney and Bain Capital could flourish just dawned on Newt tonight during an appearance on CNBC's The Kudlow Report. Gingrich told Larry Kudlow that "[Romney] should be thanking me. He should be thanking me because I did the macroeconomic things necessary to make his career possible!"
Politico emphasizes that Gingrich made the "thank-me" remark in a joking fashion and says it plays that way on TV. We agree, although Newt injected plenty of truth into the poke. But joking or not, why should Newt stop there? We'd like to see him take credit for Mitt's hairstyles, his wife and kids, and languishing campaign. The Romney remarks begin at about 13:00.
