Trump's remark is to be expected, yet the comedy of it is still irresistible. On Piers Morgan Tonight, referring to the late-December debate he's scheduled to host for Newsmax, Trump told the host that, "I know a lot of the moderators and some are wonderful, and some aren't, but I know the issues better than the moderators."
Now consider a partial list of moderators from the 27 or so previous GOP debates: Brian Williams, John King, Wolf Blitzer, Chris Wallace, Anderson Cooper, Bret Baier, John Harwood, Maria Bartiromo, Charlie Rose, and Juliana Goodman.
Like his faux-candidacy, the Newsmax debate is just another opportunity for Donald to inject himself into the race and showcase Donald. Mitt Romney recently declined the invitation to participate, joining Jon Huntsman and Ron Paul who also said no, the latter calling Trump's selection "wildly inappropriate." Paul added that the Donald would "contribute to an unwanted circus-like atmosphere."
Absent Romney, Huntsman, and Paul, the debate will basically morph into a conversation between Gingrich and Trump about how awesome they were in the nineties, as Santorum tries to score points and Bachmann (maybe) looks on horrified. In other words, an eminently watchable circus-like spectacle.
