John Heilemann and the Morning Joe crew discussed last night’s actually somewhat-exciting GOP debate in South Carolina, noting that yesterday was one of the most “eventful, surreal days of the campaign.” Newt Gingrich is closing in on Mitt Romney, who at one point seemed to be the candidate who could win Iowa, New Hampshire, and South Carolina handily, as we approach tomorrow’s South Carolina primary. “For the first time in history, three different people [could win] the first three contests,” Heilemann said. “That is as big a switcheroo in the span of 24 or 48 hours as we have ever seen.”
