In the Future, Every Online Campaign Ad Will Be This Dumb

When political candidates want a lot of people to watch their campaign ad, but they don’t have a lot of money to spend, they make a wacky and/or controversial web ad and hope it goes viral. Surely, this was the thinking of Republican Mark Oxner, a congressional candidate in Florida, when he released an ad containing the following:

  • A Cialis reference
  • A person wearing a Guy Fawkes mask
  • A freakish Alan Grayson–parrot hybrid
  • Child slaves
  • President Obama commanding a boat powered by child slaves

That’s a lot of provocative things! And guess what? It worked! We’re writing about Mark Oxner and running his dumb ad for him! To be honest, we feel kind of dirty about it.
