America Could Use Some More Magna Carta, Say New Hampshire Lawmakers

Many politicians these days yearn for an America more grounded in the original intent of the Constitution. A few legislators in New Hampshire want us to reach for inspiration even further back in time:

 House Bill 1580 .... requires legislation to find its origin in an English document crafted in 1215.

"All members of the general court proposing bills and resolutions addressing individual rights or liberties shall include a direct quote from the Magna Carta which sets forth the article from which the individual right or liberty is derived," is the bill's one sentence.

You can laugh all you want, but the Magna Carta is as relevant today as it ever was. We can't even count how many laws might reference "If a man dies owing money to Jews, his wife may have her dower and pay nothing towards the debt from it."
