Queens Man Killed in Explosion May Have Been Building Bombs

A man was killed in his Ozone Park home today by a blast that may have come from homemade low-grade pipe bombs, according to DNA Info. The 50-year-old Queens man was reportedly an "emotionally disturbed person," who might have been assembling weapons because of a fight with his employer.

Initial reports said the explosion may have come from fireworks or a gunshot, but police are now pursuing the homemade explosives angle. A neighbor told DNA Info that the man had become increasingly paranoid, installing security cameras and nailing his windows shut. "He thought someone from his job was trying to get him," said the neighbor. "He was a little uptight. He was depressed. But he wasn't violent. He never messed with anybody."
