Zappos Hacked, Leaking Millions of Customers’ Data

Online shoe store giant and Amazon subsidiary Zappos has suffered a security breach that potentially compromises data from as many as 24 million customer accounts. CEO Tony Hsieh posted an internal e-mail on the company’s website that explained to staff that a criminal gained access to customer information from servers in Kentucky. Zappos’ e-mail to customers warned that their names, e-mail addresses, billing and shipping addresses, phone numbers, the last four digits of their credit card numbers, and/or their cryptographically scrambled passwords (but not the actual passwords) might be exposed. Angry customers must save their vitriol for e-mail, though: Zappos has turned off the phone lines, stating that they can address more inquiries with keystrokes. CAPS LOCK!
