Liu’s Campaign Treasurer, Jenny Hou, Arrested

John Liu, New York City comptroller, speaks to a reporter prior to a speech by U.S. President Barack Obama on financial reform at Cooper Union in New York, U.S., on Thursday, April 22, 2010. Obama called on the financial industry to drop its "furious efforts" to fight his regulation plan, saying a failure to impose tougher rules on the market will put the U.S. economic system at risk. Not quite two weeks after a federal grand jury indicted a top John Liu fund-raiser for illegally funneling money to the city comptroller’s mayoral campaign, yet another Liu aide has been arrested. This time, the arrested official is even closer to the candidate:  Jenny Hou, his campaign treasurer. Like Xing Wu Pan, the previously arrested top Liu fund-raiser, she’s being charged for helping run a scheme to use straw donors to disguise the actual sources of Liu’s campaign money; additionally, she’s being tagged with obstruction of justice for trying to prevent the ongoing federal investigation of the Liu campaign’s fund-raising.  Liu, meanwhile, just keeps on truckin’ in his campaign for mayor.
