According to “one U.S. intelligence official“ — so take it with a grain of salt for now — Israel doesn’t plan on warning its best (and only?) friend in the whole world, the United States, before launching an assault on Iran’s nuclear facilities, which many defense analysts see happening sometime this year. But it’s not because Israel thinks the United States, which isn’t so keen on getting into another war in the Middle East, will just be naggish and annoying and all Hey, Israel, come on, stop, let’s try some more sanctions about the whole thing. Well, okay, it is that. But it’s also, according to the AP, “to decrease the likelihood that the U.S. would be held responsible for failing to stop Israel’s potential attack.” Whatever the reason, the point is, Israel isn’t going to warn us. For Obama, it’ll be like walking into a surprise party, except less cake and more potential retaliatory terrorist attacks.
