Gay-Marriage Bill Moving Forward in Maryland

Yesterday, just as governor Chris Christie vetoed the gay marriage bill that just the day before had overwhelmingly passed the New Jersey legislature (simultaneously crushing the marital hopes of Garden State same-sex lovebirds and buffing up his conservative credentials), lawmakers in nearby Maryland approved a gay-marriage law of their own. Though the margin in the lower House of Delegates was pretty slim, the bill is expected to pass the state Senate next week before moving onto the desk of Democratic governor Martin O'Malley, who is a strong supporter of equal marriage rights. While this may seem like two steps forward and one step back, at least we're moving in the right direction. As they say, slowly but surely.
