Rupert Murdoch's company saw its net income rise 71 percent to $1.1 billion for the quarter, up from $642 million the year prior, News Corp. announced today. The gains were thanks to revenue increases from the cable television (Fox News, FX) and film divisions, which more than offset declines in the publishing segment. While the bottom line is thriving, the phone-hacking and police bribery scandals still loom, with new victims' settlements reported today, and many more to come. The number of "likely victims" is now 829, and the company says the improprieties have cost them $87 million so far.
