Occupy Wall Street Protester Caught Bringing Gun to Court

He called it “the stupidest thing I’ve ever done.” The court officers cuffed 53-year-old Occupy protester John Scott Dekuyper immediately after putting his bag through the X-ray machine, and called it criminal possession of a weapon. The cancer-stricken Delaware man appeared at 100 Centre Street Wednesday morning with a Colt .45 handgun in his bag and box containing five bullets in a side pocket; he didn’t have a carry permit. Dekuyper was at the court in the first place answering to charges of grand larceny and resisting arrest related to an incident at an October OWS march in Times Square. Dekuyper’s lawyer said that his client simply forgot to remove the gun from his bag before heading to court. To come to court armed like Dekuyper did, the lawyer said, “Quite frankly, he would be an idiot.” That’s some solid lawyering right there.
