Washington State Senate Approves Bill Legalizing Gay Marriage

By a 28–21 vote Wednesday night, the Washington State Senate approved a bill that legalizes gay marriage. The measure will go to the House where it’s expected to pass easily, the Seattle Times reports. “A lot of people are just stunned, particularly people my age and older, to think this day would actually come in our lifetime,” Democratic State Senator Ed Murray told reporters before the vote. The bill’s passage would make Washington the seventh state to adopt such legislation. New York became the sixth state to legalize gay marriage in June of last year.
