A 39-year-old elevator repairman was electrocuted Wednesday night while working at 1290 6th Avenue, near 51st Street. DNA Info reports that at 9:30 p.m. he suffered the fatal shock, according to the FDNY. The man was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Daily News reports that the man was found unconscious and in cardiac arrest and could not be revived. “He’s dead,” a fire source at the scene said. “He was lying on live wires.”

Update: The man had been employed for five years by Schindler Group, a company that services elevators and escalators. The building subcontracted Schindler for repair work. Con Edison is investigating how the man came into contact with the live wires.

The man leaves behind three kids. His name has not yet been released.
