Remember Republican presidential candidate Jon “The Other Mormon” Huntsman? He always seemed pretty reasonable, which is why his campaign died back in January, when his loss in New Hampshire led him to throw in the towel and endorse Mitt Romney. Last night, Huntsman spoke at the New York liberal hotbed that is the 92nd Street Y, where he recalled his reaction to being disinvited from a Republican fund-raiser after publicly calling for a third party in March: “This is what they do in China on party matters if you talk off script.”
The former ambassador to China, who is still technically a member of the our current system’s right-leaning party, wasn’t happy when he (or his assistants) saw that quote up on Buzzfeed this morning, and by 8 a.m. he was on Morning Joe to express his frustration with the machinations of today’s news cycle. After explaining that he was merely “waxing philosophical” with his comment, he said, “You get these blogs out there, you know, Bottom-feeder, Buzzsaw, Buzzfeed, whatever they are, and they take a sentence out of context and it becomes a headline and pretty soon mainstream newspapers pick up on that.” Well, yeah, Jon — sorry about that! But good to see you back in the news.
