When Intel last checked in with Meghan McCain, her thoughts about Brooklyn were not positive. "Brooklyn in general is not a fun experience for me because I look nothing like Zooey Deschanel," she tweeted. More recently, she declared, "Oh my God. I am never coming to Brooklyn again." So when we ran into her outside of the Time/People cocktail party before the White House Correspondents' dinner, we wondered whether she'd warmed to the borough at all. She wanted to apologize to Brooklyn, and all its 2.5 million residents. "I feel terrible! Part of it was facetious! I was just kind of joking. I feel like I look very Republican," she explained. "When I go there, I feel like I look not-hipster."

McCain was looking forward to meeting "You know, everyone." Her handsome date cut in, wickedly, "Zooey!" She laughed and gave him a look. "That might be awkward. I feel like I’m pissing off everyone today."

It was Williamsburg, and possibly Fox's Tuesday-night lineup, that inspired her original tweet, but were there other neighborhoods that she preferred? Anything at all about Brooklyn that she likes? "I like my friends in Brooklyn and … um… " McCain trailed off, then reset. "You know, it’s growing on me. After my friends got mad because I talked crap about Brooklyn, I started trying to be more positive about it." Positive enough ever to live there? "Ummm, probably not. But I can’t say 'no.' I mean, people have bigger brownstones there."
