Brigitte Harris Will Be Freed on Parole

Brigitte Harris will soon be a free woman. A short time after 5 p.m. Friday, the 30-year-old from Rockaway — who is serving a five-to-fifteen-year sentence in the upstate Bedford Hills Correctional Facility for second-degree manslaughter after castrating and suffocating her father, Eric Goodridge, in 2007 — learned that she will be paroled and released sometime in August. Harris and a sister both say they were abused by Goodridge for years. Harris's attorney, Arthur Aidala, noted that parole is "very, very rare for someone convicted of a homicide." New York chronicled Harris's case in a profile last month, and hosted a poll in which the vast majority of readers voted for her release.
