Bored already by the 2012 election, the political world has lately been analyzing every hint and non-hint as to whether Hillary Clinton will run for president in 2016. Lately, the consensus has been yes, which is why her remarks this morning in India — that there will be a female president in her lifetime, but it won’t be her — have gotten so much attention. Most outlets would have you believe that the news there is that Clinton isn’t running (or has low self-confidence, or is happy to fib for the time being about her political ambitions). But what’s been ignored is the second, more telling part of Clinton’s remarks.
“I would like to come back to India and just wander around without the streets being closed,” Clinton said. “I just want to get back to taking some deep breaths, feeling that there are other ways I can continue to serve.” We look forward to Clinton’s future state-department visits to both Italy and Bali for additional hints as to her post-Cabinet plans.
