New York Loves ‘I (Heart) NY’ Again


Andrew Cuomo’s administration is ponying up $5 million advertising dollars to take back from the rest of the union what is rightfully New York’s: The I ♥ [blank] brand. The governor believes that other vacation destinations have hijacked New York’s logo, stripping the tourism symbol of its cachet. So the state’s advertising agency asked people to draw what they love about the New York, and understandably the advertisers chose to feature inoffensive pictures of fishing, theater, and the Adirondacks. Somewhere on the cutting room floor, there are sketches of Union Square drug dealers.
