It’s Probably Safe to Remove That Hurricane Irene Tape From Your Windows

OCEAN CITY, MD - AUGUST 26: A worker tapes up the windows of a McDonald's restaurant in preperation of high winds on August 26, 2011 in Ocean City, Maryland. Ocean City Mayor Rick Meehan has ordered a mandatory evacuation for thousands of residents and visitors to leave the oceanfront community, and Maryland Gov. Martin O'Malley has declared a state of emergency as Hurricane Irene approaches. (Photo by Mark Wilson/Getty Images)

We interrupt this blog for an important public service announcement: Everyone needs to take down that masking tape "X" they put on their window last summer. First of all, it doesn't do anything, and we'll presume that if you're reading this you survived Hurricane Irene. Plus, as West Village resident Amy Sedaris tells the New York Times, it's a beacon of laziness. “I just imagine what their apartments must look like,” she says. Bold words from a woman who kills roaches with her bare hands.
