Pedro Hernandez, the 51-year-old man who confessed this week to the murder of Etan Patz, is reportedly now in Bellevue Hospital on suicide watch. The Post reports that Hernandez — who also has cancer — told police he’d gone off his depression medication, and that they checked him into the hospital for monitoring around 5:30 this morning. The Post’s sources also shed more light on Hernandez’s supposed motivations for the crime. According to one, he told police that he “knew he was the one … [I] just felt the urge to kill. And while Hernandez insists that there was no sexual abuse, investigators aren’t ready to rule that out.
Whether Hernandez’s court appearance, scheduled for this afternoon, will be delayed remains unclear.
