A rare annular (not annual) solar eclipse — dubbed the "ring of fire" for the way the sun forms a ring of light around the moon — delighted sky-watchers in certain parts of East Asia and western North America last night. But for one observer, at least, it was a bittersweet event:

"It's dazzling. I wish someone would give me a ring like that."
