A Car Blew Up and Set a Building on Fire in Midtown Today

At around noon, a car parked on 56th Street and Lexington "exploded multiple times" after the underground transformer below it caught on fire. The blaze spread to an adjacent sixteen-story condo building; it burned for over an hour before the 80 firefighters called to the scene were able to put it out. While two people were trapped inside and had to be rescued, no one was injured, so you can feel okay about watching video of the drama, which was filmed by a Twitter user
