French police searched Nicolas Sarkozy and Carla Bruni's mansion this morning, along with the former president's offices, in connection with a campaign-finance investigation. Sarkozy's judicial immunity expired last month following his election loss, leaving him vulnerable in the dramas of L'Oréal heir Liliane Bettencourt, who authorities believe may have fed Sarkozy's 2007 campaign illegal money via not-at-all suspicious methods like brown envelopes and Swiss accounts. Sarkozy and his (possibly pregnant) ex-model wife were not present for the today's unpleasantness — they conveniently left yesterday on vacation.
