Spin Magazine Sold to Online Media Company

The 27-year-old music rag has been bought by Buzzmedia, whose stable of websites includes Stereogum, Idolator, and KimKardashian.com, leaving Spin’s future as a physical product uncertain. “Spin to us is more than a print magazine,” explained Buzzmedia CEO Tyler Goldman, who stressed the wonders of “digital platforms.” He acknowledged that the traditional paper packaging might possibly, maybe, be seen as “important for Spin,” but added, “As we continue to invest in the platform, we’re going to look at defining what that role is.” When the publication was sold in 1997, it went for $42 million, but it was moved again in 2006 for less than $5 million; this time, the price was kept private.
