Robbers In Amazing Masks Caught After Thanking Mask-Makers

Police had no idea who carried out a cinematic Valentine’s Day heist at a Queens Pay-O-Matic because the thieves were dressed as cops and wearing high-quality Hollywood masks that made them look like the pro wrestler Goldberg. But the crooks were such happy customers that they gave themselves away: Investigators tracked the disguises to the prop shop CFX Composite Effects, which turned over e-mails from the alleged robbers, Edward Byam and Akeem Monsalvatge. “I’m sending this message to say I’m extremely pleased by CFX work on the mask,” Byam wrote to the store. “The realism of the mask is unbelievable.” Foiled by politeness — mom would be sort of proud.
