They "take the edge off the legitimate ads," said New York's Frank Rich on Piers Morgan Tonight on Wednesday. Rich narrowed in on two such ads — the Romney campaign's spot titled "Right Choice," concerning Obama's welfare policy, and a pro-Obama super-PAC's ad that ties together Bain and the death of a steelworker's wife. "Given all the material that's out there, I don't get it," Rich said. "I certainly can't defend it. On the other hand, the Romney campaign chronically lies about Obama — it's sort of pick your poison. This stuff does seem like playground material, precisely because it's all fictional and it's so small-bore."
