On Saturday night 80-year-old Rubin Baum died when two cars collided while he and his wife Denise Baum were hailing a cab at the corner of 59th Street and Park Avenue. Now the New York Times reports that there’s a strange twist to the sad story: The Baums met in Midtown nearly four decades ago when they were both hailing a cab. “I was trying to steal his taxi,” she said. The collision sent one of the cars spinning into the couple, and Rubin was pinned under the vehicle. Denise says she survived because he pushed her out of the way at the last second.
