John Heilemann on Hardball: Romney’s ‘47 Percent’ Remark Not Sitting Well With GOP

By

On Hardball tonight, our own John Heilemann discussed why some Republicans seem to be distancing themselves from Mitt Romney after his "47 percent" remark, including Connecticut Senate candidate Linda McMahon, Virginia Senator George Allen, and Massachusetts Senator Scott Brown (or not?). If some Republicans begin to feel Romney will not win the election, they may shift into "every man for himself" mode, Heilemann said, calling the 47 percent comments "politically toxic." "We're not there yet but you're starting to see some signs of it. It can be a very ugly scene for a Republican or Democratic candidate when his party abandons him."
