Man Collapses on Subway Tracks, Cheats Death

NEW YORK, NY - AUGUST 27: The deserted Times Square subway station is seen as Hurricane Irene approaches after the entire city mass transit system was closed on August 27, 2011 in New York City. Approximately 370,000 city residents in low lying areas are under a mandatory evacuation order ahead of Hurricane Irene. (Photo by Mario Tama/Getty Images)

It was his lucky day, sort of. According to the Post, a man suffering from high blood pressure fainted on the platform at the 42nd Street station late Sunday afternoon and collapsed onto the tracks, where he remained when a northbound 3 train came racing into the station. Multiple sources reported that the train did not strike the unidentified man, meaning he might have fallen into the gap between the rails. He was conscious when rescuers took him to Bellevue Hospital, where he will contemplate never returning to the subway.
