Jon Hubbard is a Republican member of the Arkansas House of Representatives and not running for national office, and would therefore usually fly below our radar. However, the contents of the book he’s just published, Letters to the Editor: Confessions of a Frustrated Conservative, are unfortunately too gross to ignore. For example, in one excerpt, he states that slavery “may actually have been a blessing in disguise” for black people.
The institution of slavery that the black race has long believed to be an abomination upon its people may actually have been a blessing in disguise. The blacks who could endure those conditions and circumstances would someday be rewarded with citizenship in the greatest nation ever established upon the face of the Earth.
Gosh, we never thought about it like that before, because we’re not horrible racists.
And that’s not all! In other parts of the book, Hubbard observes that black people don’t “appreciate the value of a good education” and have yet to “establish themselves as inclusive and contributing members of society.” Unsurprisingly, his racism extends to all kinds of people, as two more snippets (courtesy of the Arkansas Times) reveal:
The immigration issue, both legal and illegal … will lead to planned wars or extermination. Although now this seems to be barbaric and uncivilized, it will at some point become as necessary as eating and breathing.
[Meanwhile] American Christians are assuming a similar stance as did the citizens of Germany during Hitler’s rise to power.
This from a man who, on his campaign website, says that his top priority is defending the country’s “Christian heritage,” implying that he himself may be among these “extermination”-minded American Christians. Sickening.
