While we were disappointed (relieved?) to learn that Canada had fooled us with that fake eagle-carrying-a-baby video, further investigation reveals that eagles are nonetheless terrible creatures that will hunt your children. As far back as 1901, eagles were raining terror down from the skies and snatching up kids in their talons. Spotted by Tweets of Old, the Hartford Herald on February 2, 1901, reported that a 2-year-old was “seized and carried off by an immense gray eagle to-day” while in his yard and saved only after a half-mile chase. Sadly, the incident was not captured on daguerreotype.
