At Year End, Florida Keeps a Strong Grasp on its Weird News Reign

TAMPA, FL - NOVEMBER 13: Jill Kelley leaves her home on November 13, 2012 in Tampa, Florida. Kelley, who is reported to be involved with the military community at MacDill Air Force Base, reported receiving harassing emails to the FBI, which resulted in an investigation that revealed the sender to be Paula Broadwell, who was found to be having an affair with Gen. David H. Petraeus. (Photo by Tim Boyles/Getty Images)

With its eternal voting confusion and occasional manatee riders, this year, the sunshine state was not only home to twins involved in military scandals but also to a 70 million-year-old Tyrannosaurus bataar skeleton fossil, along with six others. Obviously illegal, owner Eric Prokopi pled guilty to smuggling charges today and Ty (yes, the fossil has a name) will eventually be returned to its native Mongolia. Really makes us look forward to whatever Florida has to bring in 2013.
