The breathtaking aerial photograph by Iwan Baan used on the cover of New York's Hurricane Sandy issue is now for sale as a poster, with the proceeds going to the local relief effort. Large-scale prints of The City and the Storm are available from MoMA, which has teamed with the Mayor's Fund to Advance New York City to raise money for the recovery effort. "Iwan Baan's powerful and now iconic image brought to life one of the many devastating effects our City experienced in the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy," said Mayor Bloomberg. "We are grateful to the Museum of Modern Art for their solidarity and support of the many New Yorkers whose lives have been turned upside down by this storm."
"It was very uncertain, but I knew it would be an amazing shot of New York at that moment," said Baan of the image. "All these details of the day just lined up."
