Having the president of the United States lavish praise on your service to the nation as a soldier and senator would be among anyone’s proudest moments and highest honors. But as President Obama nominated Chuck Hagel to be his next secretary of Defense this afternoon, the Nebraskan looked sullen, almost heartbroken, as if Obama were informing him that his puppy had died. Sad Chuck Hagel, why are you so sad?
