American Sniper Author Fatally Shot at Texas Gun Range [Updated]

Chris Kyle, a 38-year-old former Navy SEAL who wrote a best-selling memoir about his 150 confirmed sniper killings in Iraq, was shot to death by 25-year-old Eddie Ray Routh on Saturday afternoon in Glen Rose. (A second man, Kyle’s friend Chad Littlefield, also died in the shooting.) In his book, Kyle claimed to be “the most lethal sniper in U.S. military history,” though he left the Navy in 2009. Since then, he had appeared on NBC’s Stars Earn Stripes, and recently spoke out against assault weapons bans. Update: Routh, who was arrested at his home a few hours after a passerby discovered the bodies at the shooting range, is a former marine who may have been suffering from PTSD. (Kyle was also known for working with fellow veterans dealing with the disorder.) He has been charged with two counts of capital murder and is being held on $3 million bond.
