Joe Lhota Throws Cold Water on Staten Island Deer Hunt Idea

Metropolitan Transportation Authority Chairman and CEO Joseph Lhota testifies during a Senate Surface Transportation and Merchant Marine Infrastructure, Safety, and Security Subcommittee hearing on "Superstorm Sandy: The Devastating Impact on the Nation's Largest Transportation Systems." December 6, 2012 in Washington, DC. The heads of New York and New Jersey's mass transit systems testified before the subcommittee about the need for more federal dollars for Superstorm Sandy recovery.

You'd be forgiven for coming away from this Staten Island Advance story thinking mayoral candidate Joe Lhota was open to a deer-hunting season in the borough, what with lines like this: "Lhota said that if deer hunting were permitted, it should be with a bow and arrow." But when City Room picked up the story, Lhota got on the phone to set the record straight. "I don’t think it should be done," he told the Times' blog, and said the line about bow hunting was "not anything like what I said." So don't start riding the ferry slathered in deer musk just yet.
