During a press conference this morning, capital region GOP assemblyman Steve McLaughlin carefully considered how to most effectively express his opposition to the way the gun-control bill was pushed through the legislature last month. After weighing all the pros and cons of various approaches, McLaughlin settled on, “Hitler would be proud. Mussolini would be proud of what we did here. Moscow would be proud.”
Update: Right on schedule, McLaughlin has apologized. “I made an analogy that I should not have made and I’m very, very sorry about that. I called the governor to apologize,” McLaughlin says. “Just like you I’m human and I make mistakes.” You know who else was a human and made mistakes?
