Two People Hit by Cars on the Upper East Side Within Two Hours

NEW YORK, NY - OCTOBER 30: Cars are blurred as they pass by a darkened Flatiron Building in a section of Manhattan still in a blackout following Hurricane Sandy on October 30, 2012 in New York City. The storm has claimed at least 40 lives in the United States, and has caused massive flooding across much of the Atlantic seaboard. US President Barack Obama has declared the situation a 'major disaster' for large areas of the US East Coast including New York City. (Photo by Mario Tama/Getty Images)

At around 1 a.m. Saturday morning, 23-year-old Jason Morales was struck and killed by a Honda sedan while walking in the middle lane of the FDR near 63rd Street. Later, at 3 a.m., a 32-year-old man suffered critical head injuries after he was hit — not fatally — by a tractor trailer as he crossed First Avenue in between 85th and 86th Streets. We know it’s nearly impossible not to jaywalk, but at least be careful when doing it in the middle of the night.
