Gowanus Canal Is Getting 700 New Neighbors

A massive apartment building from the Manhattan-based Lighthouse Group got approval from the Planning Commission Monday for the bank of the Gowanus Canal, a Superfund site that has scared most other developers away. The developer agreed to raise the floor and pull the building to 66.5 feet back from the water. So now the only obstacle left to the 700-unit building’s construction is actually building the damned thing.
