It’s still early in the mayoral campaign, and already John Liu is making his disdain for his rivals apparent, not just on the debate stage but back in the green room, where it’s more personal. In The New York Times’ look at the candidates’ lives behind the scenes of their myriad debates and forums, the candidates acknowledged they didn’t want to get too friendly with each other, but while most have been “cordial so far,” as Bill Thompson put it, Liu came off as not just aloof but personally displeased by his fellow candidates. “It’s too stuffy in there — too much hot air,” he told an organizer of one forum in Harlem, on refusing to enter one green room with his fellow candidates. Recently, Liu has recently managed to avoid the green room altogether by showing up 30 minutes late.
