Steve Buscemi, who’s directing Vampire Weekend’s American Express Unstaged concert this month, has been releasing sketch comedy videos with the band, and the latest edition prominently features Bill de Blasio. Supposedly the public advocate and mayoral candidate is a huge fan who’s eagerly awaiting Vampire Weekend’s latest album. The band seems considerably less impressed with de Blasio’s fatherly lecture on the importance of promoting yourself, though it’s unclear if their stoic expressions are a part of the act, or a result of their strong opposition to de Blasio’s stance on stop and frisk. Either way, de Blasio probably shouldn’t count on his comedic abilities swaying many voters.
