Gowanus Canal to Host Smelliest Boat Race Ever

The organizers of a June 15 open-invitation canoe race on the Gowanus Canal are touting it as the first-ever such event to take place entirely on a Superfund site. The Gowanus Dredgers canoe club wants “all boathouses in New York City and internationally” to come participate in the 2.5-mile race up and down the canal, and three have signed up so far. It’ll be nice to see canoes racing down the canal for a change, instead of raw sewage.
