The West 57th Street block that is home to luxury tower One57 was shut down on Saturday morning so workers could finally replace the construction crane that snapped in half during the storm. Area businesses were closed, and developers gave residents of adjacent buildings $1,500 to spend Friday night in a hotel, reports the New York Post. Orderly as it was, the evacuation still brought back some bad memories. “It’s like disaster movie where an asteroid may hit the earth,” said neighbor Matt Mazer. “My daughter was so concerned that she took her clothes, her iPad, and all of her photo albums.” However, he added, “It’s an inconvenience, not a tragedy,” because it’s important to keep some Sandy-related things in perspective.
