The Vatican is not exactly denying that Pope Francis performed an exorcism on Sunday when he placed his hands on a wheelchair-bound man’s head and said some prayers, causing the man to make 100 percent involuntary hissing noises and contorted facial expressions. Instead, it’s suggesting that Francis might have performed an exorcism by accident:
“The Holy Father did not intend to perform any exorcism,” Vatican spokesman Federico Lombardi said in a statement, after the claims by TV 2000, which is owned by the Italian bishops’ conference.
“As he often does with sick and suffering people who are presented to him, he simply intended to pray for the suffering person,” Lombardi said.
And instead, an evil spirit came out of the guy’s mouth. Shit happens, you move on.
