A Brooklyn high school freshman who apparently split off from a group hike during a class trip drowned in Hessian Lake on Monday. The student at International High School At Prospect Heights was one of two who walked away from the group to go swimming, NY1 reports. “DOE officials say there were five chaperones — four teachers and a parent coordinator — who accompanied the 48 students from the Crown Heights school on the trip.” But determined teenagers can make swimming happen — this time, with tragic results.
